First Project Press Conference on BG06-216 "Sustainable Development through Intercultural Education – Care for Children at Risk in Municipality of Sredets"
On June 25, 2015 at the Sredets Military Club, the project BG06-216 Sustainable Development through Intercultural Education – Care for Children at Risk in Municipality of Sredets opening press conference took place. The project is implemented within the framework of Component 2: Children at Risk of Programme BG06: Children and Youth at Risk, funded by European Economic Area Financial Mechanism 2009-2014. Municipality of Sredets is beneficiary under the project and its partner is Dialogue Association. This project is the first one implemented by the Municipality of Sredets under the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism 2009-2014. The goals, activities and expected results from the project were presented at the press conference. The grant amounts to EUR 225 328. The main project objective is the improvement of the status of the children at risk, age 3 to 6, in Municipality of Sredets while emphasizing school integration of children from vulnerable social groups, including Roma children.
The project ends on April 30, 2016. Its activities are implemented in the five kindergartens within the municipality: DCU Snezhanka, DCU Barborino, DCK Daga in the village of Debelt, DCK in the village of Orlintsy and DCK in the village of Zagortsy.
The project management team pointed that following a tender procedure under the PPA, 120 costumes, 50 dolls and various school materials were supplied to facilitate the organization of intercultural workshops and logical thinking and conflict resolution workshops. 10 desktop computers, 5 multifunctional devices and 9 CD players were also purchased. They will be allocated to the five kindergartens and their branches. A dedicated bilingual website was developed where information is to be published regularly on the project progress and pictures are to be uploaded. The website is children-sredets.eu
Representatives of the media, NGO, the kindergartens as well as the two Roma mediators engaged in the project attended the press conference.
